Alternative Rock
Carmen Consoli was born in Catania, Italy in 1974. At the age of nine she started playing guitar, spurred on by her father who was a lover of black music and blues. At fourteen she performed in her first clubs in Catania with the Moon Dog’s Party: they played a wide repertoire of cover songs. Her strong voice and charismatic stage presence – suited to the songs of Janis Joplin and Ottis Redding whom she loved – came to the notice of Francesco Virlinzi, a Catanian record producer who mentored her and encouraged her to write her own music. The fruit of this early enthusiasm and discovery is a body of 10 albums met with both critical and popular acclaim. As a performer, Carmen’s passion and dynamism have given her space in the hearts of her loyal fans.
