Born in the German city of Hanover, Ozlem Ozdil’s first teacher of traditional Turkish music was her father. As an artist she feels the weight of responsibility to blend these traditions of the past with realities and values of the present and future. Deeply influenced by the various masters with whom she’s studied in Turkey, she seeks always to do this with musical integrity.
In both Özlem’s voice and interpretation, her music is transformed into crystal clear expressions of sadness, joy and love. Her skill as an instrumentalist is constantly refined and renewed by her deeply inculcated discipline as well as by her dedication to the varied regional traditions she discovers and explores.
