El Machetero

deep fried brassknuckle street soul
The oldest son of Chilean political refugees who arrived in Canada in 1979, El Machetero effortlessly blurs the flimsy lines between the most brain-melting experimental elements of cumbia, champeta, currambera, salsa callejera, chicha, descarga, bugalu, Afro rock, switchblade soul, reggae/rocksteady/ska, brassknucked rhythm and blues, dark psychedelia, snarling garage/proto-punk/juvenile delinquent rock n’ roll, underground oldies, proto-metal and blunted stoner rock, to create a wall of sound radiating with revolutionary ways, reeking heavy of platanos fritos con frijoles negros y collard greens, in a place where the rain comes down fierce with a vengeance, and there ain’t no use for umbrellas.

A growing archive of his eclectic DJ mixes can be accessed at http://macheterosoul.tumblr.com/, and an endless stream of rare goodies are regularly shared on his page at https://www.facebook.com/musicandpoliticsradioregent#!/DjElMachetero.
