World – Roots – Jazz
Jayme Stone has returned banjo to its broadest roots. He makes music inspired by folk traditions from all over the world with musical explorations in Scandinavia, Africa, Bulgaria, Brazil, Italy and North America. His repertoire ranges as broadly as his curiosity. From Bach suites, to Moorish sword-fighting dances, to Calypso beats – you can hear it all in Stone’s lush, edgy originals.

Unexpected inspiration also feeds his banjo muse: Japanese poetry, Brazilian literature, and marvelous instruments he’s found while on his travels. He also finds it in artists as diverse as Anouar Brahem, Bill Frisell, and Toumani Diabaté.

This two-time Juno Award winner both defies and honours the banjo’s traditional and varied roles … then he turns these contrasting historical roots into compelling music!

Two-time Juno-winning banjoist Jayme Stone makes music inspired by sounds from around the world. The Room of Wonders repertoire includes a Bulgarian round dance, a Moorish sword-fighting song, a Trinidadian Calypso and Stoneʼs own tiny symphonies.
