Toronto rabble-rouser Michael Louis Johnson leads jams of swing, funk, balkan-beat and more.

After years of playing in the streets of Kensington Market with Richard Underhill and the Kensington Horns, Michael Louis Johnson decided to put together his own big horn ensemble. Their first gigs were in the autumn of 2009 at the Painted Lady on Ossington Avenue in Toronto. The music is completely improvised with an emphasis on the different cultural ideas of “dance music”. The collection of players is varied, with seasoned professionals playing alongside eager amateurs.
