Lo Cor de Plana

Founded in 2001, this group of singers and percussionists from the teeming "La Plaine" quarter of Marseilles combines contemporary inspirations from their multicultural home city with ancient Occitan polyphonic vocal traditions. They are nomads who perform just about everywhere and take their music to the people -- in churches, factories, bars or theatres. The group's influences run the gamut from Bartok to the Massilia Sound System, from Oran to Le Rove.  During a show, one might expect to hear their voices recreate an astonishing range of sounds and soundscapes that make the show feel as if it is taking place right in their neighbourhood -- police sirens, newborn children, the cries of debauchery at a party, howling wolves and bleating sheep.
