The Small World Music Festival presents the Toronto debut of Hungary's Gypsy revelers and favourite party band, LITTLE COW.

Little Cow (or Kistehén tánczenekar in Hungarian), will make their Toronto debut dishing up a spicy musical stew of Gypsy-tinged ska/rock/funk pop songs, performed by a troupe of engagingly charismatic musicians. The group embraces the accordion in a big way, creating real party music that is played with infectious vigour, making your feet move and your smile broaden. Founded by László Kollár-Klemencz and inspired by the success of his songs for the popular children's cartoon in Hungary, Little Yellow Cow (littlecow.hu) in 2002, it began as more of a hobby band. The current and more serious version of the band formed in 2005, describe their music as "the cultural wedding sound," "crazy listening" or "village Beatles." 2005 was also the year in which they had incredible success with their song "Szájbergyerek" or "Cyber Boy," which went on to become a worldwide internet cult favourite. It was chosen as Hungary's song of the year and selected for the British Beginner's Guide to Eastern Europe compilation. A recent collaboration with Romano Drom appears on Putomayo's Gypsy Groove. The 2007 release Szerelmes vagyok minden nobe ("I'm in love with every lady"), with its quirky folk art cover, was among the Top of the World selections by Songlines Magazine in June of that year. Soon after the release they did a live session on Berlin's public broadcasting station, Radio Multiculti, and from that point on they were dubbed "Hungary's hottest export since goulash."

Playing to enthusiastic crowds at festivals and popular venues throughout Europe, Little Cow has become one of Hungary's favourite bands. Success also comes largely due to their attention to visuals, and bandleader László keeps the settings for their videos very simple. Many take place in their small rehearsal room, which is usually decorated with Eastern-European memorablia, or set to give the sense of a beautiful autumn meadow or the interior of a circus caravan. László is interested in the atmosphere his songs and his friends can create - when you watch them play, you just want to be there and party with them.
