Persian / modern at the Small World Centre + Ticket Contest

Sunday’s qawwali concert in Mississauga was a resounding end to our 13th Annual Asian Music Series – a powerful and moving evening with Fanna Fi Allah, who won over the crowd with their passionate performance. Thanks to all who helped make the two-month series a success – our sponsor TD Bank, our community partners, a great lineup of artists and all who attended. Now, it’s on to finalizing the Small World Festival – coming your way September 24th!In the meantime, there’s plenty to keep adventurous ears occupied. Two concerts next week at the Small World Centre have Iranian threads weaving through  contemporary settings.On Thursday the 11th, Akasha Five merges the ancient world of Persia with the modern sensibilities, fusing traditional Sufi poetry of Rumi with western jazz, folk, and rock – reinterpreting the traditional in a timeless, compelling and accessible way. The following evening on June 12th, it’s Bazar Project. The initiative of our good friend (and the Centre’s sound technician) Reza Moghaddas, Bazar presents contemporary world music based on melodies and motifs from Middle East and Asia with modern arrangements, jazz harmonies and experimental atmospheres. In addition to Reza’s keyboards and bass, the group features drummer, percussionist Morgan Doctor and multi instrumetalist Sina Momtahan
