Intertwining the ancient world of Persia with the modern sensibilities of our time, Akasha Five successfully fuses the traditional Sufi poetry of Rumi with western musical elements of jazz, folk, and rock - reinterpreting the traditional in a timeless, compelling and accessible way.

Hailing from the success of their 2014 debut album “We” and with two upcoming shows at the Aga Khan Museum on June 20 and July 25 the band proudly introduces its current lineup of impressive Toronto based musicians from diverse backgrounds and musical disciplines.

The haunting Farsi vocals of Parisa Eram merge ancient tradition with the beautiful contemporary melodies of singer/songwriter/guitarist Philippe Tasci. Multi-Percussionist Amir Samimi and tabla player Anita Katakkar intertwine intricate pulsating rhythms under Oriana Barbato’s sweet and solid bass grooves, while the soaring expressive sounds of violinist Jessica Deutsch completes the ensemble.

Be there for a not-to-be-missed concert at the Small World Stage on Thursday June 11 for a wonderful evening of beautiful mystical music where east and west, contemporary and tradition, meet, dance, and celebrate in a universal language.
