Part of Small World Music's 16th Annual Asian Music Series sponsored by TD Bank.

Toronto erhu virtuoso Amely Zhou has assembled an innovative group of some of the city's finest performers of far-eastern music to celebrate the cultural diversity represented by Asian Heritage Month. With traditional instruments from China, Korea, and India, the ensemble incorporates an array of stylistic elements to present new musical ideas and soundscapes. Expressing cultural differences and commonality through their own unique musical language, the group also features Yi Wang on sheng, Lipeng Wu playing dixi, Roa Lee on gayageum and tabla master Ravi Naimpally. A fitting culture-crossing tribute to Asian music in the 21st Century.

The evening begins with the rare and haunting sounds of Indonesian kacapi suling. Performed by one of the only duets of its kind in Canada, Andrew Timar and Bill Parsons bring the music of Sunda, West Java via the bamboo flute and zither. Beautiful and meditative, it captures the spirit of tranquility.
