Uma Nota's annual multi-day event returns for a fifth year with another rich weekend of live music, DJs, art, food and drink, dancing and other diversions. This year’s festival, which continues Uma Nota’s Pan Am Jam series, features a mix of visiting and local artists and acts, with a music lineup that keeps Brazil in the mix, as always, but encompasses a range of tropical styles. The Saturday Jamboree (Oct.17th) at warehouse cultural space Geary Lane features two live bands representing between them music from Brazil, Haiti and various parts of Latin America, alongside two of the city’s top selectors holding down the reggae, dub, MPB and vintage vinyl on all 15,000 watts of the mighty Dub Connection Soundsystem. Then on Sunday, the afternoon-into-evening Community Cultural Fair (Oct. 18) at Lula Lounge brings back the popular family-friendly format, with visiting and Toronto-based Brazilian artists, live bands from the local groove scene, special guest DJs and lots of lively action, including a dance workshop and, new for 2015, a live painting session with two artists creating a piece to be raffled off in the evening.
