Globetrotters, did you know that the 1st of this upcoming month marks the 50th anniversary of the invention of Dub music? April Fool's! Though could be true actually...
Anyhow, now that we got that out of the way, it's no foolin' that Dub has been the most influential genre for electronic dance music across the world. And it turns out that April does in fact mark 6 years since CKLN 88.1 FM officially left the airwaves.
So for this round, it's a proper throwback, as we rumble into spring with sets from 2 of the top radio shows from that community station pioneer. DJ CHOCOLATE spins her magic from the REBEL MUSIC archives, alongside ARAM SCARAM + SASSA'LE with the full bass spectrum of VERSION XCURSION fame, and a global dubwize foray from our resident and CIUT sister station rep DJ MEDICINEMAN.

ARAM SCARAM ~ Citizen Sound

Recording as Citizen Sound, Aram released his debut album in 2010. Blending his love of music and sound system culture into a hybrid of dub and soul, reggae and hip hop. He teamed up with some of Canada’s premier singers & musicians to help bring his home-grown vision to life. The end result is an exciting fusion of sound that pays tribute to the foundational roots. In 2011 Citizen Sound was recognized by the Reggae Music Achievement Awards (Canada) for Best Reggae Single for "Reggae Is Her Name" feat. Blessed. This song was also awarded a MuchFact video grant. In the video Blessed and Director David Mewa brilliantly capture the essence of this tribute to reggae music.

SASSA'LE ~ Version Xcursion

Lee Castle aka Sassa'le, originally from Bristol, England took residence in Toronto in the early 90s. He is the sole founder of the present day Version Xcursion. The vision for VX radio was to showcase the UK underground scene and he was one of the first to introduce Toronto audiences to the 'Triphop' sounds of bands like Massive Attack, Smith & Mighty, Tricky and Portishead. Version Xcursion expanded as Sassa'le joined forces with Aram Scaram. Together they produced and released their debut album Radio in 2004. Today Sassa'le provides a platform for local artists, showcases innovative new sounds, and continues to break barriers in both his solo work and with Version Xcursion.
