During the 13th and 15th century, La Banda Morisca was the changing border that separated the Nasrid Arab-Andalusian Kingdom of Granada from the Crown of Aragon and Castile. Within this strip of no man's land, both Christian and Muslim dealers, fugitives, and nomads, as well as the first gypsies coming to the Iberian Peninsula, met and coexisted.

La Banda Morisca is also the name of a septet from Jerez de la Frontera in Andalucía consisting of a group of passionate musicians from the traditional Spanish music circuit fusing original and creative views of traditional repertoire. The group mixes oriental and occidental influences from the South of Mediterranean like Muwashahas, Chaabi, Dahmane el Harachi and Nass el Ghiwane, and the mood of the traditional flamenco from Jerez as well as Andalusian rock.

La Banda Morisca has risen in the last three years from the ashes of Cadiz’s flamenco fusion bands Radio Tarifa and La Jambre. La Banda Morisca continues those groups’ unstoppable passion for musical experimentation. Live they combine traditional flamenco with Andalusí-Arabic melodies (music created when Muslims, Jews and Christians coexisted in southern Spain). The show features a singer and four musicians that bring with them both traditional and contemporary instruments such as oud, banjo, bass, oboe, flute, keyboards, viola, percussion, saxophones and drums.
