The legendary desert blues guitar hero, whose father Ali Farka Touré performed at the WOMAD festival at Harbourfront Centre three decades ago.

Malian singer, songwriter and guitarist Vieux Farka Touré captivates audiences worldwide with his dazzling speed and dexterity, and his unique sound rooted in Malian blues, rock and reggae. One of the most respected and celebrated African guitarists in history, Vieux follows the path of his Grammy award winning father, Ali Farka Touré, while stepping “into a spotlight all his own,” (Record Collector). He has produced brilliant collaborations with American singer songwriter Julia Easterlin and notable Israeli pop star Idan Raichel, and his latest recording "Samba" is being hailed by critics as his finest and most well rounded album to date.

Often referred to as “The Hendrix of the Sahara”, Vieux Farka Touré was born in Niafunké, Mali in 1981. He is the son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Touré, who died in 2006. Ali Farka Touré came from a historical tribe of soldiers, and defied his parents in becoming a musician. Vieux followed his path, initially a drummer/calabash player at Mali’s Institut National des Arts, he secretly began playing guitar in 2001. He is known for dazzling crowds with his speed and dexterity, as well as his palpable charisma and luminous smile.
