From Mexico to Hamilton, there’s plenty to move your dancing feet this week – starting tonight with the event we mentioned last week – the remarkable group of Venezuelan Afro queen Betsayda Machado and her wild percussion ensemble from the village of El Clavo. Prior to their North American tour, they had basically not left their home village, so this is a truly unique event.
We’ve got a pair of FREE tickets for tonight’s event for the third response to adam@smallworldmusic.com. If you’re not lucky enough on the draw, newsletter subscribers can still access a 15% discount by entering the code ‘smallworld’ at their ticket link.
On the weekend by the lake, Harboufront’s Ritmo y Color festival explores the streets of Mexico City, bursting with culture and delicious street food, showcasing the best theatre, music and dance from the land that combines Indigenous, European and African culture. Meanwhile just west of town, the Hamilton World Music Festival has a great lineup ranging from contemporary British folk, to eclectic global fusion and contemporary southern African jazz.
