Do not miss this opportunity to hear world class musicians perform traditional Bulgarian and Balkan music. This workshop will highlight many of the traditional rhythms and melodies of this rich cultural musical tradition.
About the musicians:
Yankoulov breaks and stretches the traditional way of playing drums, tupan and percussion by applying new techniques and non-standard musical ideas. He combines authentic folklore with new ways of percussion expression thus revealing the unlimited variety and emotional intensity of the unique Bulgarian culture.
Dimchev, though is a progressive; some of the tunes of his recital were closer to jazz than to tradition. The tamboura is a string instrument with a teardrop body and a long neck, and, in Dimchev's hands, is capable of great subtlety Ed Ward, Wall Street Journal (USA)
Admission: $15
