Baobá is a trio formed by Toronto’s top female percussionists, taking traditional beats to the next level. Empowered by the natural musicality that flows from South American bodies, Anita Graciano, Y Josephine, and Mari Palhares, representing Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil respectively, demonstrate an ideal balance of voice, melody, and instrumentation. When the group started in 2015 the dynamic was clear.

Anita, Y, and Mari planted this Baobá seed on the common grounds of friendship and continuous art making. The group performs original songs, old school Latin covers, Cumbia, Salsa, Funk, as well as Afro-Brazilian, Colombian, Venezuelan, and other Latin-inspired rhythms.
