KUNÉ
Presented in partnership with Culturas 360°
Small World Music comes together with 13 festivals worldwide to present the third edition of CULTURAS 360° taking place March 26th - 27th, 2022.
CULTURAS 360° is an annual international collaborative online project for artistic showcases from around the world. Across two days every year, artists from countries far and wide will celebrate the rich diversity of cultures and music, the magic that unites everyone, wherever they are.
Beyond a virtual celebration of music, CULTURAS 360° promotes a global initiative to reach diverse artistic content to audiences on the five continents, develop new audiences for the arts, and new opportunities for artists. A collective of curators and culture professionals committed to change and social transformation, have joined hands to present this independent platform of music festivals that nurture cultural diversity and solidarity between peoples.
We are so excited to present KUNÉ from Toronto, Canada.
KUNÉ is an eleven-piece collective made up of ten immigrant musicians from all over the world and one metis-Canadian. Our artistic practice captures and recreates the experience of living in Toronto, one of the world's most diverse cities. We play instruments and styles that don't encounter each other very often. KUNÉ is a space in which to remember where we came from and learn from each other’s differences. Together, KUNÉ members compose, arrange and perform music that honors our cultural roots and creates connections with others through curiosity, experimentation and dialogue.
In 2021 KUNÉ became an independent collective and recorded a new album that will be released in 2022 by Lula Records. In this new stage we are striving to honor our multifaceted musical identities and the complexity of our stories as immigrant musicians. After five years of working together and getting to know one another, KUNÉ’s sound and essence has only become stronger and grounded. Over time, the ensemble has built strong relationships that are bridges between the many rich and diverse musical cultures that could only have come together in a place like Toronto.
