In ongoing festival developments, we’re pleased to welcome on board a new community partner – Casa Maiz. A Latin American cultural group that does dance, poetry music and educational programs, they’re excited by the return to town of Uruguay’s Jorge Drexler on Thursday October 3rd. An intimate acoustic show with this master singer/songwriter, the concert at St. Andrew’s Church downtown will also feature local singer Lenka Lichtenberg.
Here’s something to keep your ears buzzing for a while. We’ve uploaded the Small World Festival sampler CD onto Soundcloud for your listening pleasure. No cost, no fuss, just click here and enjoy!
Raag Maala are presenting a compelling Indian classical concert of vocal and sarod on Sunday, info below. And lastly, a very interesting new CD release brought to my attention by a review in the Star (who said old media has no role to play). The Road to Jajouka is the latest in a long series of crossover projects that involve Morocco’s Master Musicians of Jajouka, who we were fortunate to present some years back. Featuring a who’s who of contemporary jazz luminaries working with Bachir Attar the group’s leader, it’s also a fundraiser, with profits going to support the Jajouka Foundation, recently established to preserve their music and support their community.
