Having been fortunate enough to attend the Asia Pacific Music Meeting in Ulsan recently, I’ve been witness to some of the exciting music coming out of Korea. The country is interested in raising the profile of the innovative artists working there.
Coreyah certainly fits the bill, combining traditional instruments with modern approach and attitude. The band is on a mission: ‘The root of our music is Korean tradition, but we hope that it can appeal to everyone.’ This modest vision statement belies their exceptional artistry and extraordinary ability to connect with an audience. You have two opportunities to see their Toronto debut on Saturday at 5:00 & 8:00.
Beyond Toronto, the place to be for Canada’s world music enthusiast this week is Mundial Montreal where the 6th edition of this international networking and showcase event takes place. A selection of some the best and brightest on the global scene will be there along with presenters, movers, shakers and music fans.
