"A musician known both for his emotive virtuosity and cerebral approach." (The Hindu)

Arnab Chakrabarty is one of the world's leading performers of the sarod, a fretless guitar-like instrument that is as beautifully resonant as it is difficult to play. Arnab's music carries a distinct stamp of authenticity that is loyal to the instrument's traditional melodic-percussive idiom while seeking to expand its capabilities.

He represents an amalgamation of the two oldest schools of the sarod, namely the Shahjahanpur and Lucknow gharanas. His teachers include such luminaries of sarod music as Dr Kalyan Mukherjea, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, and Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan, as well as the late master vocalist Pandit Yeshwantbua Joshi.

Arnab has performed several concerts and festivals of note: Saptak Festival (Ahmedabad, India), Trafó Theatre (Budapest, Hungary), Copenhagen Jazz Festival (Denmark), Silk Road Festival (Damascus), NCPA (Mumbai, India), and Museum of Fine Arts (Boston) to name a few. Arnab is also a featured soloist on the soundtrack of Oscar-winning documentary, "Born Into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Children."

For this Small World concert, Arnab is joined by Ravi Naimpally on tabla.
