CaféMusic is a concert series hosted by Santur player Sina Bathaie in collaboration with Small World Music Centre. The series focuses on presenting non-mainstream instruments and showcasing their full potential as solo instruments in an intimate setting.
This month's concert is a unique collaboration between Sina and his father, Santur virtuoso Javad Bathaie.
Javad Bathaie, born in 1957, is an Iranian santur player and composer. He first became familiar with Persian music through his father and brother, who were his first teachers. In 1980, he entered the Faculty of Fine Arts and also attended the classes of great masters of Persian santur such as Parviz Meshkatian, Majid Kiani, and Faramarz Payvar. He continued to learn ney and learned Persian musical radif from Abdolnaghi Afsharnia. In 1993, he worked with Mohammad Reza Shajarian and Ava Ensemble and performed several concerts in different cities in Iran, as well as in the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Norway, and England which resulted in albums such as Rosvaye Del, Ahang Vafa and Arame Jan. In 2001, he formed Navaye Del Ensemble with the help of master Hassan Nahid and performed several concerts with several well-known singers such as Alrieza Ghorbani, Salar Aghili, Fazel Jamshidi and Mojtaba Asgari. He has released many acclaimed albums such as "Morning and night," "Az faragh ta sobh," "Leafless memories Eternity," and published books such as "Golafshan" (ten pieces for santur), "Faryad khazan," and "Be yad dust."
