Presented in partnership with Chai & Jam
Join us for three nights of improvisation and cross-cultural connections.
Chai & Jam is an innovative live concert series that brings together Indian Classical and Jazz musicians in a spontaneous “blind date” format where artists meet for the first time on stage without any rehearsals. This setup encourages fearless improvisation, where performers rely on their training, intuition, and openness to create something entirely new.
Each curated concert features one established headliner alongside three emerging artists from diverse musical backgrounds. These artists must be skilled improvisers and eager collaborators. Pairings might include a Hindustani vocalist with a jazz pianist, or a spoken word artist with a tabla player. They are given full creative control, resulting in performances that blend traditions, defy genre boundaries, and showcase genuine musical communication.
There will also be two Open Jam events for the public to participate in at Bampot Tea House on November 13th and 20th. For a finale, there will be one special concert at the end of November with details to be announced later this year.
Over the past three seasons, Chai & Jam has featured acclaimed headliners including SVDP, Divine Brown, Tika Simone, Alysha Brilla, and Sarah Thawer - to name a few. This year’s outreach includes equally extraordinary talent from across the GTA and Canada.
We can’t wait to see you! Don't forget to bring your own cushion (seats available for those who need them).
Doors open at 7:00 PM
The 2025 Small World Music Series is sponsored by TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment and funded by the Government of Canada, Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council.
