This round of Globetrotter brings us a modern spin on the classic dancehall soundsytem! Hot on the heels of his new album "Migration", Montreal pioneer POIRIER is set to rattle our bass bins alongside his MCs FACE-T + FWONTE. An opening set by DJ SPYNE of the local party crew 40hz soundsystem will set the level, and resident DJ MEDICINEMAN will rumble us into the wee hours with his signature worldwide whomp.
GLOBETROTTER is our monthly collision of world music with DJ culture. On the 1st Saturday of each month, we gather in the heart of Toronto's global marketplace to dig deep into the evolution of world music. Local and international DJs journey beyond borders to deliver a cross-cultural concoction in celebration of our diversity and the unifying potential of rhythm and movement toward inspired community.

POIRIER ~ Montreal

“The Montreal kingpin could start a party in a morgue with a stack of Liberace records and an air horn.” ~ EXCLAIM
Drawing from a wide range of tropical riddims and electronic music, the power of Montreal-based DJ/producer Poirier’s blasts through any flimsy attempt to classify his music. Pinpointing the bits and pieces of reggae/dancehall beats, soca energy and electronic intensity, this is a man who just understands what works in the dance. He tears through new genres constantly, leaving a trail of packed, chaotic dancefloors in his wake. He’s a producer and DJ who has no boundaries giving the massive what it wants, yet providing a musical education in what it needs.

MEDICINEMAN ~ Resident DJ

Richard ‘medicineman’ Martin is one of Canada's most highly respected global fusion tastemakers. His radio show, NO MAN’S LAND, on CIUT 89.5 FM, is considered to be one of the best programs of its kind and has been instrumental in broadening the world music landscape for the past 16 years. He has earned a loyal throng of fans who crave a connection between ancient rhythms & progressive beats. His music sets flow seamlessly from Indo-Arabic dub to Afro-Latin rhythms to Electro Gypsy groove, always challenging musical genres and boundaries.

SPYNE ~ Guest DJ

As a DJ since the 90s, Spyne has experienced countless twists, turns and returns across many different styles of music. 2009 was the year that a mystical experience abroad inspired the creation of the hand-built 40hz Soundsystem that continues to make sine waves in the Toronto Bass Scene. If you're looking for some fresh dub and roots sounds, be sure to catch him behind the decks at a venue near you. Best served with ample sub-bass.
