Janice Jo Lee Ensemble launches the long-anticipated 'Ancestor Song' album. Lee’s songs mix folk, funk, jazz and new music. This suite of songs charts a seven year journey from complete spiritual destruction, to withdrawal, rest, healing, re-emergence and empowerment. Now with boundaries! With renewed feelings of purpose and self-love!
An evening of soul-warming three part harmony, stirring musical themes, poems on our times, and sing-alongs for the people. A comforting balm for the overworked, weary-hearted, and revolutionary spirit.
“When the first of these melodies came out of my chest, I didn’t believe it was of my own creation. I felt I had accessed a deep part of my blood memory. Melodies I felt had been passed down to me by my ancestors, who gave me the voice in my chest and my body as an instrument. It has been through stillness and silence that these melodies have had the courage to come out.”-Janice Jo Lee
