Lemon Bucket Orkestra Returns to Toronto With Homecoming Show
Fresh off a three-month Cross-Canada tour that had the band playing everywhere from the Vancouver Folk Festival to the Halifax Jazz Festival, The Lemon Bucket Orkestra will celebrate their return to Toronto with a Homecoming Concert at The Opera House on Friday, October 10 at 8PM. Fans can expect an all-night dance party from the infamous Balkan-klezmer-gypsy-party-punk-super-band, featuring surprise guests.
The 16-piece Orkestra earns accolades from fans and press alike wherever they go. Vancouver’s Georgia Straight raved about the “riotous Balkan hoedowns that ensued whenever the Lemon Bucket gang.. took to the stage”, and Exclaim! magazine reported that “a set.. full of boisterous, cacophonous punked-up takes on traditional material… [led] fans literally dancing off into the night”.
But LBO is not only guerrilla-folk party band, they are engaged in the contemporary politics of the cultures that gave birth to their chosen music. Alongside popular Eastern European celebratory anthems, LBO performs the Ukrainian funeral dirge “Plyve Kacha” as part of their concerts, shedding light on the crisis in Ukraine and showing solidarity with the people that gave their lives in February’s Maidan Revolution.
Having won new fans and friends country-wide, LBO is excited to return to their hometown crowd.
“It’s been very fulfilling playing across the country and abroad,” says ring-leader Mark Marczyk, who spent the months before the Canadian tour touring Ukraine with several LBO members. “But we’re excited to be back. Toronto is our home-- it's a place we never tire of exploring and reimagining because its streets and people are so dynamic, curious and welcoming. ‘Home’ is the beginning and end of all celebration, and we're excited to bring in a new season of public ceremony and irreverence in the place it all started for us.”
Fans can purchase special $15 advance tickets to the show from La Palette (492 Queen St. W) and Sunrise Records (336 Yonge St). Pre-sale tickets are also available via ticketfly.com (http://www.ticketfly.com/event/681385-lemon-bucket-orchestra-toronto)
