Join us for an audiovisual exploration into the sounds, rhythms, and songs of Korea. During this lecture and demonstration, Maegandang will explore the genre and history of Korean music.

For a number of years, the global music community has benefited from the export efforts of the South Korean cultural sector to promote their rich traditions and innovative approach to modern sounds. While K-pop has had a major impact in the west, the peninsula boasts a thousand year musical history, so there’s a lot more that’s worth exploring!

We’re thrilled to have Maegandang – one of the most exciting groups currently bringing attention to Korean music – to offer insight into their world. Since debuting in 2022, the group has won several awards at some of the most important competitions in Korea's traditional music scene and completed a showcase at Seoul Music Week, the country's main music platform.

Maegandang features:
Yejin Yu | Geomungo
Jiyeon Kim | Gayageum
Jaein Hwang | Haegeum
