Global Village
This new project explores Kurdish folklore song and improvisation with new and varied instrumentation. The five members of the group build on improvisation that combines different countries and cultures, demonstrating that they can perform and collaborate together.
Led by renowned ney (flute) player Shaho Andalibi, who was born in Sanadaj, the capital of Kurdistan province in Iran. He started learning music as a young child, part of a well-known musical family that includes his late father, Iraj Andalibi, and cousin Jamshid Andalibi. He studied singing with the great Mohammad Reza Shajarian and improvisation with Majid Derakhshani. An international performing career has seen him perform with a range of the world’s top musicians including grandmasters Mohammad Reza Shajarian and Sima Bina, and with groups such as Mah-Banoo, Shams, Mawlana Ensemble, and the Netherlands Symphonic Orchestra..
Here, he is joined by Sardar Mohamadjani, Zoë Santo, Camilo Giraldo and Zohreh Shahbazi, who bring a wealth of cultures and instruments to the project.
