AM//PM presents two Indigenous singer-songwriters for a night of stories and songs. Kicking off the evening is JUNO award-winning, trans, queer, non-binary folk-blues musician, G.R. Gritt (formerly Greyson Gritt), sharing a sneak peek of their upcoming album. Followed by Nick Sherman, who gives new meaning to “the voice in the wilderness,” or rather, the voice from the wilderness. His gentle voice is rich with honesty and the vitality of youth, but tempered with world-weariness, atop his strong, simple guitar. Nick will be performing music from his Nick’s new album, Made Of, releasing November 1.

Nick Sherman

Singer-songwriter, Nick Sherman, gives new meaning to “the voice in the wilderness,” or rather, the voice from the wilderness. His gentle voice is rich with honesty and the vitality of youth, but tempered with world-weariness, atop his strong, simple guitar.

While he still calls his rural birthplace of Sioux Lookout home, Nick spent much of his youth out on the land, moving between his hometown, the small First Nation community of Weagamow Lake, and his family’s trapline on North Caribou Lake. It was here in the depths of the Northern Ontario forest that his family members would play guitar as they tended their trapline, and Nick found himself soaking in songs and lyrics.

G.R. Gritt

Juno award-winning artist Greyson Gritt was born on the Canadian Shield, raised on a dirt road, and lives as a trans, queer, non-binary folk-blues musician in Sudbury, ON. With a mouthful of soul and a truckload of blues, this Anishinaabe-Métis songster and producer is releasing their first full-length studio album in early 2020.

You may recognize Greyson as a creative force of Quantum Tangle, the 2017 Juno award-winners for Indigenous Album of the year. Greyson’s solo work was nominated for Best Blues Album by the Indigenous Music Awards. In addition, Greyson’s work with Quantum Tangle has been nominated for Outstanding Engineer and Outstanding Album by NOMFA and won the 2019 NOMFA for Outstanding Indigenous Album. This work was also nominated for Best Indigenous Album, Best Album and Pushing the Boundaries at the 2018 Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Greyson Gritt’s skills at sketch writing and musical direction/composition were showcased in comedy legend, Mary Walsh’s, stage production, "Canada, It’s Complicated", which toured coast to coast to coast throughout the autumn of 2017.
