About the Artist:
TAYOW acronym for the – The Architect of Your Own World – is a Brampton-based Trinidadian-Canadian artist who seamlessly blends Afro-diasporic genres to create music that resonates with rhythm and storytelling. Her electrifying new single, “Democrazy", released on January 31st, sets the tone for her upcoming project. The single channels the vibrant storytelling tradition of Trinidadian calypso, offering a sharp critique of societal systems. With pulsating horns and infectious, dance-driven drum rhythms, “Democrazy” is both a celebration and a call to action. Through its thought-provoking lyrics, TAYOW asks: Democracy? Or Dem Mo Crazy?
Democrazy (Spring 2025) marks the second chapter in a bold trilogy, shifting from the introspective smooth jazz of her 2022 release, Niveah, to horn-driven melodies and live percussion that blend Afrobeat, reggae, soul, calypso, and jazz. Thematically, TAYOW transitions from exploring the struggles of the inner warrior to confronting the injustices and disenfranchisement the warrior witnesses in her world.
TAYOW has already made waves in the industry with her previous project, Niveah (2022). Its single, “Ride the Beat,” was featured on CBC’s The Block and Metro Morning. She has graced both small and large stages, including NXNE and Toronto’s iconic Sankofa Square (formerly Yonge-Dundas Square). Additionally, her music has been featured on major Spotify editorial playlists such as Fresh Finds and R&B Right Now.
Inspired by iconic truth-tellers like Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, Fela Kuti, and Peter Tosh, TAYOW’s unapologetic sound celebrates her culture, honors the rich history of Black resistance, and amplifies uplifting sounds of hope. She invites listeners into her ever-evolving world—a realm where imagination knows no bounds.
Doors open at 7:30 PM
The 2025 Small World Music Series is sponsored by TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment and funded by the Government of Canada, Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council.
