We’re delighted to announce our Festival Saturday feature – a night of mystical Persian Sufi music, poetry and dance brought to life by one of the city’s most beloved singers.
‘Soley Ensemble: Inner Journey 1‘ takes place in the beautiful acoustic setting of St. Andrew’s Church, and is presented in association with Rumi Canada. The stirring voice of Tehran-born Soley Vaseghi brings five decades of dedication to his craft, and a deeply soulful approach to performance. This event features some of Canada’s finest performers of Persian music, as well as the beguiling beauty of sacred Sufi whirling, the poetry of Rumi and other greats.
On the subject of soulful, we look forward to welcoming Parvaaz on their tour “A Rooted Departure.” Enjoy their haunting soundscapes of blues, rock and psychedelia at the Small World Music Centre this Thursday. Tickets are still available, and we are also contesting a pair; Respondents to jess@smallworldmusic.com who correctly name the band’s country of origin are in.
Watch this piece from Soley Ensemble’s sold-out concert at the Aga Khan Museum for an idea of what’s in store on September 16.
