As we head toward mid-August, we’re excited to release some exciting news about the coming Small World Music Festival. We all love free programming, and we’re pleased to announce a partnership with our friends at Fort York that will see a whole weekend of great free music on the lawns of the beautiful historic site. Small World On Common Ground will bring a roster of top Canadian talent presenting everything from Turkish folk to full-on funk, Afro-Cuban jazz to global dub. There will be interactive Pow Wow dance, marching puppets, food, drink and more to keep families and music fans alike grooving! Full details and schedule forthcoming. Check the website for updates and save the dates – Saturday September 26 & Sunday September 27!
That same weekend comes to a close with the Toronto debut of a performer we’re really looking forward to seeing. The phenomenal Ester Rada has been making waves across the festival circuits in the past couple of years. Her Toronto debut at Revival will show us why – with a combination of influences from Ethiopian jazz to contemporary soul, a superb voice and charismatic presentation, it promises to be a highlight.
With top artists coming from Korea, Estonia, Mali, Palestine, the UK and more, the festival as whole, in it’s fourteenth edition, is looking like a great run. Mark your calendars! This week, we’re pleased to partner with the folks at Roy Thomson Hall as their Live on the Patio series continues. This has been a great addition to the city’s musicscape – free outdoor concerts in a unique downtown setting. Tomorrow and Friday, the theme is ‘global guitar’ with two Latin-infused performances. Juno Award winner Quique Escamilla has been building a solid fan base with his dynamic songwriting and passionate delivery. Rooted in the traditional music of his native Chile and inspired by that country’s legends Violeta Parra, Victor Jara and Inti-Illimani, Nano Stern has created a fusion of indie, folk, rock and jazz that garnered a slot at South by Southwest.
