World Fiddle Day Closes Asian Music Series

The last few days have had us deeply immersed in Persian music with some of the greatest performers from the tradition. Two sold-out events with Kayhan Kalhor and Alireza Ghorbani were simply stunning, and a great way to lead us out of this year’s Asian Music Series, sponsored by TD Bank.

For our final event, we’ve partnered with the folks at World Fiddle Day to infuse that innovative program with some Asian flavours. Now in its fifth year, WFD celebrates this much-loved instrument in all its forms, including the two-stringed erhu of Central and East Asia, the Persian kamancheh, contributed by Amely Zhou and Kousha Nakhaei respectively. Taking place at the Aga Khan Museum, the event offers the best of world music on bowed strings through morning workshops, a free afternoon jam session, and an evening concert led by seven guest artists.

Circling back to last year’s Asian Music Series, watch Amely Zhou perform “Galloping Horses” with Strings Across Asia, live at the Small World Music Centre.

Thanks to all who participated and enjoyed the wonderful sounds!
