Welcome to 2018 and more great music!
Our friend Sina Bathaie has established himself as a talent to watch, in part through his appearances at the Small World Centre, and we’ve been delighted to support him. This Saturday, he offers an interesting twist that brings his father to the stage. Javad Bathaie is a santur virtuoso deeply rooted in Persian classical music. The concert is entitled ‘Search‘ (the name of his eighth album) and presents his pieces accompanied by Bamdad Fotouhi on tombak.
Next weekend, another Centre regular, Bruno Capinan returns to Toronto after a successful 2017 that included performances in Japan, Argentina and across Brazil. The singer songwriter and activist has worked tirelessly to build an international career and always puts on a compelling performance.
A nice show at Lula Lounge next Wednesday sees Odessa/Havana, David Buchbinder’s project, release their third album ‘Conversation of the Birds.’ The night kicks off with world jazz by Turkish multi-instrumentalist Selcuk Suna with powerhouse vocalist DIA and Louwop of Los Poetas.
