While the May 14th Persian Music concert at the Toronto Centre for the Arts is sold out, we’re excited to announce a special event two days later with the same artists – Encore: Kayhan Kalhor and Alireza Ghorbani – an exclusive ‘up close and personal’ salon-style evening at the Small World Centre! This unique night will include an insightful interview and Q & A with audience members, along with performance, Kayhan’s signature kamancheh and Alireza’s extraordinary voice.
Tomorrow, the Asian Music Series, sponsored by TD Bank and in partnership with Exclaim! continues with Monsoon. This super-talented quartet blends East and West in a most compelling way. Their synthesis of the spirituality of Indian Ragas with the creative expression of jazz has brought Monsoon’s first CD release Pranaam international acclaim. Tickets are selling fast, so make a move while you still can.
On Saturday, the series moves to Kensington Market and onto the dance floor with the May edition of our Globetrotter monthly. Retro Bollywood features live Bhangra with the Guru Bros, the artistry of Raja Rhythmics, resident ethnomixologist DJ medicineman, and guest Punjabi dancers. Vintage Bollywood film, lush decor and a proper chai bar round out this multi-sensory throwback party. Jai Ho!
