As we slide closer to the end of August in this hot summer, we have some scorching musical announcement to ramp up the in/future festival lineup. Over the course of eleven days, the Small World Stage, presented by Exodus Travels we’ll be showcasing an amazing array of talent from home and abroad. Here’s a few names that we’re excited to announce:
Saeid Shanbehzadeh– Trance music and dance of the Persian Gulf meets modern beats to create a hypnotic, visceral presentation.
Abakos – Afro-futuristic sounds from Polaris Prize nominee Pierre Kwenders and fellow Congolese-Canadian vocalist Ngabonziza Kiroko (Dear Denizen).
Kobo Town – Calypso, roots reggae, and acoustic sounds meet innovative production, social commentary and indie rock attitude.
Minotaurs – The slinky backbone of afrobeat infuses indie-rock-folk with propulsive rhythms – catchy, inspiring, and seriously funky.
Zuze – A creative combination of popular & folk melodies of Iran and Azerbaijan set to afrobeat rhythms has created real buzz.
There’s more to come – and this doesn’t even hint at the visual art and film components of the festival – you can get in on the action – tickets are on sale now!
Don’t forget this weekend’s free events as we partner with Roy Thomson Hall for their Live on the Patio series. Some great Brazilian music on tap with Flavia Nasciemento and Aline Morales on stage Thursday and Friday.
