Labour Day weekend is past, school’s back in session, TIFF is on its way… And that means there’s lots of great global-themed music coming up with Small World Festival launching next week!
From Algerian Raï and Korean shamanist music, to Afro Future beats and Sufi whirling, the program is full of musical treats. Of course, all fingers are crossed for good weather for our finale on Sunday the 17th at Trillium Park. Tickets are moving fast for next Saturday’s event at St. Andrew’s Church for the Soley Ensemble. If you’re a fan of Rumi, this is a perfect entry into the mystical world of Sufi music. Watch our Festival line-up in 1 minute through the link here!
As a lead-in to the program, check out the Small World Centre Sunday where Parvaaz plays two shows. Based on their first concert there, this should be sweet. The energy in the room for that initial play was amazing, and demonstrated just how good our little room is for rock music. This band has real potential beyond the subcontinent, so catch them on the way up!
And when it comes to post-festival planning, the inimitable Seu Jorge returns to town Tuesday the 19th at Massey Hall. The Brazilian singer (yes, we were the first to bring him to town, way back when) presents his tribute to David Bowie made famous in the film ‘The Life Aquatic’. It helped launch Jorge to stardom and is a beautiful take on the great one’s music.
